avian flu

Posted: October 29th, 2005

The Spanish Flu virus, a variety of avian flu, killed millions in 1919-1920. I remember as a kid hearing my Aunt and GrandMother talk about how the Spanish flu killed my Aunt’s first husband. Here’s an excerpt from an article found on The Daily Reckoning:

Cisco India

Posted: October 23rd, 2005

Cisco Systems, the $25 billion networking gear provider, on Friday said it will consider India as a manufacturing base as it reaps the benefits of the burgeoning Asia-Pacific market. The company which competes with peers such as Lucent and Nortel also said it will invest a further $50 million to expand its Bangalore development centre. This will be in addition to the $1.1 billion investment, John Chambers, president & CEO, committed to India recently for the next three years.
Speaking on the possibility of manufacturing networking routers, switches and the like, Chambers said: “I would not have looked into this decision if the Indian government had not discussed it with me…

Katrina Boondoggle

Yup, they are just sitting around, waiting - for what, who knows. Here’s the scoop, as told by ABC News - 4000 firefighters from around the country were recruitd by FEMA to help after Katrina. So, they flew these folks to Atlanta, where they spent a day in ‘diversity training’ - and they’ve been sitting around doing nothing ever since.

Bush Flips Bird

Posted: August 29th, 2005

I couldn’t believe it either, but… Here’s a quote from the
“Bush’s Obscene Tirades Rattle White House Aides” article on the Capitol Blue site:
——–

Bush, whiles setting up for a photo op for signing the recent CAFTA bill, flipped an extended middle finger to reporters. Aides say the President often “flips the bird” to show his displeasure and tells aides who disagree with him to “go to hell” or to “go f— yourself.” His habit of giving people the finger goes back to his days as Texas governor, aides admit, and videos of him doing so before press conferences were widely circulated among TV stations during those days…

Housing Bubble

Posted: August 11th, 2005

Benjamin Wallace Wells warns us that…
… we’re in the midst of a huge housing bubble, on a scale only seen once before since the Depression. Worse, the inflated housing market is now in an historically unique position, as the motor of the rest of the economy. Within the next year or two, that bubble is likely to burst, and when it does, it very well may take the American economy down with it. (this was written in 2004, fyi)

Economy

These guys can sum in just a few short sentences what no one else even dares to say…

From the Daily Reckoning (quote):
“On the world market, American companies can’t compete with European firms, because the Europeans make better products. They can’t compete with Asian companies because the Asians make cheaper products. And in the homeland, consumers are running out of money. Their debt-to-wealth (inflated house prices) ratio may be calm and collected, but their debt-to-real income ratio has become almost desperate.”

Beam Me Up…

GoodBye, Scotty
I grew up saying “Beam Me Up, Scotty.” I grew older alternating between “Calgon, Take Me Away” and “Beam Me Up, Scotty” whenever the world got to be too much. (Like commercials and slogans don’t have any impact on the subconscious…)
